Extract, split, delete: three jobs people confuse
These three sound interchangeable and produce completely different results, which is why so many people end up doing the job twice.
Extract gathers the pages you chose into one new document and leaves the original alone. This is the one you want when a fifty-page report contains a five-page appendix that needs to go to the finance team — they get a five-page PDF, in order, and nobody has to scroll past the rest.
Split gives you a separate file per selected page. Use it when each page has a different destination: one invoice per supplier, one certificate per person, one form per case file. Anything over a single page comes back as a zip.
Delete is the inverse of extract. When you want almost everything, ticking the two pages to remove is far faster than ticking the forty-eight to keep, and the result is a copy of the original minus those pages.
All three copy pages rather than re-render them, so text stays real text and stays searchable. That matters more than it sounds: printing to PDF, which is what people reach for when they cannot find a proper tool, flattens the page to an image and destroys the text layer for good.
